musical research and creation laboratory | Paris/Montréal 2oo2

As part of his residency in Montreal, the cellist Benjamin Carat launched an appeal for composition. Many composers from all over the world replied. The residency process involved putting on-line the various writings collected, playing them, and developing the works by means of a work-in-progress programme, thus bringing them to their final form. With the backing of the Afaa and the GRAME of Lyon, the instrumentalist thus conducted an experiment involving just-in-time musical creation. Malte Martin’s graphic workshop put on-line a laboratory website, nothing less than a platform for exchange, (de)monstration and listening, relating to this work in progress.Malte Martin made three films to go with three of the works selected. Like veritable journeys into matter, they came across like video paintings, having an obsessive effect on us caused by the textures, hues, and micro-forms.
